MAN IS JAILED FOR TWO ASSAULTS AFTER KICKING AND PUNCHING HIS FORMER PARTNER
After an investigation conducted by Thames Valley Police, James Hampton, aged 39 and residing on Bankside, was sentenced at Oxford Magistrates' Court on June 8, 2022, to serve one year in prison along with a two-year restraining order upon his release.
Hampton was convicted by a jury on two counts of assault and three counts of breaching a restraining order following a trial.
On April 15, around 1:30 PM, the victim, a woman in her thirties, contacted police after Hampton violated a restraining order by going to her home.
Officers arrived at the scene, where Hampton was found with the woman, who is his former partner, leading to his arrest.
Furthermore, Hampton had assaulted the victim on February 15 and April 15, kicking and punching her, which resulted in bruising.
Sergeant Sarah Nash, stationed at Banbury police station, emphasised the seriousness with which Thames Valley Police treat violence against women and girls.
She highlighted that, despite Hampton's repeated denials, a comprehensive investigation led to his conviction.
Nash expressed hope that the sentence would demonstrate that the police are committed to pursuing offenders relentlessly and praised the victim's courage for testifying.
She added that the sentence might help the victim move forward with her life.
