MAN JAILED AFTER VIOLENTLY ATTACKING AND RAPING WOMAN
A man from Banbury was sentenced to eight years in prison after being convicted of raping a woman last year.
David Williams, aged 32 and residing on Mold Crescent, faced charges of rape and sexual assault.
The incident occurred in April of the previous year, during which Williams assaulted a woman and subsequently subjected her to sexual assault and rape.
After a five-day trial at Oxford Crown Court, a jury reached a unanimous verdict, finding him guilty of one count of rape and one count of sexual assault by penetration.
His sentencing took place on Tuesday, January 3, 2023, resulting in an eight-year imprisonment.
Detective Constable Samantha Davies from the Rape and Sexual Offences team at Banbury police station commented: “Thames Valley Police takes rape and sexual assault offences seriously and will investigate robustly with care and support provided to the survivors.
I am pleased Williams will go to jail for a significant period, the sentence reflects the severity of his offences.
“I would also like to thank the survivor for reporting the offence to the police and having a huge amount of strength during this extremely difficult period.” Along with his jail sentence, Williams was given an indefinite restraining order and will be placed on the sex offenders register for life.
He was acquitted of a second count of rape.
