RICHARD PERRIN SENTENCED IN HEREFORDSHIRE FOR SEXUAL OFFENSES INVOLVING A 15-YEAR-OLD GIRL
A teaching assistant from Herefordshire has been sentenced to prison after engaging in a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old girl, an act that has shocked the local community.Richard Perrin, aged 50, who resides in Canon Frome near Ledbury, was found guilty of multiple serious charges related to his conduct with the minor.
According to court records, Perrin also sent explicit, nude images of himself directly to the victim before his eventual arrest in June this year.
The Worcester Crown Court heard that Perrin's illegal activities spanned over a period of five months, during the nationwide coronavirus lockdown, a time when restrictions should have kept individuals more confined and vigilant.
The court was told Perrin had admitted to six counts of engaging in sexual activity with a child, acknowledging his misconduct during the court proceedings.
The case was brought to light when authorities took action following reports from a male relative of Perrin.
This relative had come across incriminating messages on Perrin’s phone, which led to his arrest.
During the investigation, police also discovered notes written by the young girl, which had been hidden beneath the driver’s seat of Perrin’s vehicle.
These notes are believed to have been part of the evidence of her experience and the extent of Perrin's inappropriate conduct.
Defense attorney Julia Needham described Perrin as having once been “a constructive, useful and beneficial member of society” prior to the incident.
Further background information shared during proceedings revealed that Perrin was undergoing personal turmoil at the time of his offending.
His wife was in the process of divorcing him, and he reportedly had “lost everything,” including his career in education.
Following the hearing, the court's presiding judge, Recorder Sandeep Kainth, emphasized the gravity of Perrin’s actions.
In his sentencing remarks, he stated, “What you have done is deprive a young girl of her childhood.
I sincerely hope you have learned a salutary lesson from what can only be described as absolute and complete stupidity by you.” As part of his punishment, Perrin was sentenced to serve 32 months in prison.
Additionally, he was ordered to register as a sex offender for life, reflecting the seriousness of his offenses.
To further mitigate the risks to the public and ensure ongoing monitoring, he was also subjected to a sexual harm prevention order, restricting his conduct and contact with minors in the future.
This case underscores the ongoing issues around safeguarding children and the importance of vigilance in protecting minors from exploitation and abuse, particularly during periods of widespread societal disruption such as the COVID-19 pandemic.
