On the outside, the couple appeared to have a perfect life, but behind closed doors, Chris Bywater was a violent man who exerted control over his wife, Jodie.His violent outbursts included physical assaults that left her with severe injuries, such as a broken jaw, nerve damage, and a fractured eye socket.
Jodie bravely spoke out about her experiences, revealing that Chris had attacked her multiple times, including an incident in September 2013 when he assaulted her while she was pregnant, and an aggressive attack in August 2017 after she returned home late with their children.
Jodie described how he would control her daily life by sharing an email account, checking her bank account, and restricting her contact with others.
His violence escalated to the point where she felt her life was in danger and had to run to her neighbor for help during a violent attack.
Police arrest and her courage in giving evidence led to his conviction.
Chris Bywater, aged 35, was convicted of two counts of grievous bodily harm with intent and was sentenced to 11 years in prison.
