2009: MAN IS JAILED AFTER SEX ATTACK IN FRIEND'S HOME
A man accused of sexually assaulting a woman inside her home has received a 14-month prison sentence.Richard Egan, aged 39 and living on Spinning Mews, School Hill, Bolton, appeared before Bolton Crown Court yesterday.
He previously admitted to committing a sexual assault and was scheduled for sentencing on Monday.
However, the hearing was postponed after Egan declined to attend court from prison, citing his dirty trousers as the reason.
Egan was a guest at a couple's residence on the evening of July 26 last year.
The woman went to sleep early in the night, and while Egan left the room to visit the toilet, he entered her bedroom and assaulted her as she was about to fall asleep.
Shortly afterward, he returned downstairs, and her partner found her crying at the top of the stairs.
Judge Timothy Clayson commented: “You entered the complainant’s bedroom uninvited while she was sleeping.
It appears you were attracted to her, and alcohol and/or drugs may have influenced your actions.
This was a serious breach of trust, as you were invited into her home.” The judge ordered that Egan serve half of his sentence in prison and the remaining half on licence, with 106 days already counted towards his punishment.
In addition to imprisonment, Egan was mandated to register as a sex offender for ten years.
