In a disturbing case that has shocked the local communities, Richard Cheatley, a resident of Corby, became the focus of a serious criminal investigation involving child exploitation and abuse. The sequence of events began in June 2017, when police executed a raid on Cheatley's residence and uncovered a disturbing collection of indecent images depicting children. Among these were some classified as Category A, which are considered the most heinous, showing the sexual assault of young children by adults.Following his arrest, the 34-year-old was released on bail while authorities continued their investigation. However, just two days after his release, Cheatley was found actively engaging online, attempting to arrange a meeting with an 11-year-old girl. Law enforcement officials stated that his actions clearly indicated an intent to sexually assault the young girl.
On July 8, 2017, Cheatley's criminal activities took a more alarming turn when he traveled from Corby, specifically from Viking Way, to Leicestershire with the apparent purpose of meeting the young girl. His plans were thwarted when police intercepted him before the meeting could occur, leading to his arrest on charges of arranging or facilitating the commission of a child sex offence.
Further investigations revealed that Cheatley’s electronic devices contained additional indecent images of children, reinforcing the severity of his crimes. The evidence presented in court painted a disturbing picture of a man actively involved in the exploitation of minors.
At Northampton Crown Court, Richard Cheatley was convicted and sentenced to a total of four years and two months in prison. His sentence was for the offences of arranging to sexually abuse a child and possessing indecent images of children. In addition to his prison term, Cheatley was ordered to be placed on the sex offender register for life, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities and preventing further harm to the community.
