WOMAN JAILED AFTER PUNCHING PARTNER OVER DNA TEST DISPUTE
A woman named Rebecca Carter, aged 37, was sentenced after she punched her partner in the head following a dispute over a DNA test. The incident occurred at the victim's home on Lockbridge Way, Milnsbridge, on March 20.
According to reports, the argument erupted when the victim accused Carter of having children with different fathers, and he refused to pay child maintenance until a DNA test confirmed whether the youngest child was his.
Carter, who has five children aged between six months and 17 years, became angry when her partner withheld payments and subsequently ran towards him, punching him multiple times, before grabbing their baby's pram and leaving the scene.
She had two previous convictions related to criminal damage involving the same man.
The court heard that her relationship with the victim was on-and-off for two years, and that she had four children with the same father, with the fifth being her youngest and confirmed to be the victim's biological child through a DNA test.
Magistrates sentenced her to a community order with 20 rehabilitation days, including programs such as the Together Women Project.
She was also ordered to pay £85 in court costs and a victim surcharge.
She expressed her desire to separate from the victim, stating, 'However, I want nothing more to do with her.
I just want to get on with my life without her.' Meanwhile, the victim stated, 'I just want to get on with my life without her.
I don't mind paying child maintenance should this child be mine.
Things seem to have settled down now, and he appears to have acknowledged his responsibilities regarding the DNA test.' The court mitigation noted that Carter normally visited the house to discuss the child amicably but accused the victim of being aggressive because he had been in contact with the CSA regarding responsibilities to the child, which led to the incident where her partner used covert CCTV footage to prosecute her for assault, alleging she was abusive.
The court concluded with her sentencing, emphasizing rehabilitation and acknowledging her prior convictions.
