WEST YORKSHIRE POLICE OFFICER CONVICTED OF HARASSMENT IN HALIFAX
A West Yorkshire Police officer has been convicted of harassing a woman as she walked with her child in a pushchair.PC Raza Mahmood, aged 33, was found guilty of this offence after a trial at Sheffield Magistrates' Court on Friday.
Mahmood, who was working in the Calderdale district, was accused of driving slowly alongside the woman as she strolled through a street in Halifax on 26 March 2024.
He was off-duty at the time and reportedly shouted at the victim to come over to him.
Furthermore, he drove away but then returned, repeatedly following her in a car on at least four occasions, according to West Yorkshire Police.
Det Ch Supt Tanya Wilkins explained that the victim and her partner were distressed and expressed concern for her and her child's safety due to Mahmood's behavior.
She emphasized that protecting women and girls from violence and intimidation is a priority for the police and condemned Mahmood's actions as very troubling.
Mahmood is currently suspended from duty and will face internal misconduct proceedings after the criminal case concludes.
He was scheduled for sentencing on 7 August.
