ELDERLY OFFENDER RAY CATCHPOLE DIES BEFORE SENTENCING FOR CHILD RAPE CRIMES
An elderly man accused of multiple sexual offenses, who was scheduled to be sentenced at Teesside Crown Court, has died before his hearing.
Ray Catchpole, aged 82, was a pensioner who was convicted by a jury on September 7 of six counts of raping a girl under 13 and five counts of sexual abuse involving a minor.
Additionally, he was found guilty of two charges related to making indecent photographs of a child.
The offences took place more than ten years ago.
Originally from Eggleston Road in central Middlesbrough, Catchpole had been remanded into custody and was due to return to court for sentencing this week.
However, his solicitor, Christine Egerton, confirmed that he had died in prison in October, shortly after the conclusion of his trial.
