YORK MAN CAUGHT WITH OVER 360,000 INDECENT IMAGES OF CHILDREN SPARED JAIL
A paedophile named Ralph Harrington, aged 58, from York, has been caught with an astonishing 362,560 indecent images of children, including 2,734 Category A images which are the most severe.Harrington downloaded the images over at least eight years, starting from February 2013, and they included photographs of children as young as four years old.
He was arrested in October 2021 following police intelligence and searched his home, where four computer devices were seized for analysis.
The devices revealed further downloads of 3,829 Category B images and texts indicating his sexual interest in children.
Harrington, who had a previous conviction for similar offences in 2003, admitted to making indecent images and appeared in court, where he was sentenced to a 12-month suspended prison term, placed on the sex offenders’ register for ten years, and subjected to a ten-year sexual-harm prevention order.
He was also ordered to complete a 35-day rehabilitation program.
The court acknowledged his previous good response to supervision but highlighted that he still has a deep-seated interest in children.
The judge emphasized that while immediate imprisonment was avoided partly due to Harrington’s otherwise good conduct and impact on his family, his behaviour remains deeply entrenched.
Ultimately, Harrington's sentence was a suspended prison term, prioritizing his rehabilitation outside detention.
