PHILLIP LAPPIN SCUNTHORPE MAN SENTENCED FOR CHILD PORNOGRAPHY OFFENSES

In January 2017, authorities took decisive action against Phillip Lappin, a resident of Fairfield Road in Scunthorpe, after discovering a significant collection of illegal images on his computer equipment.

The police investigation revealed that Lappin had been involved in the possession and creation of child abuse material over a span of several years.

Specifically, he admitted to making a total of 1,110 indecent images of children, with the timeline of these offenses stretching from November 15, 2008, to July 16, 2012.

During a search of Lappin’s residence, law enforcement officials uncovered a disturbing array of digital content, including images and videos depicting minors aged between 13 and 15.

Many of these files had been deleted, indicating an attempt to conceal the illicit material.

Among the items found was an image involving extreme pornography, specifically involving a horse, which Lappin later admitted to possessing.

Additionally, he confessed to possessing 21 indecent images of children for the purpose of showing them to others, further highlighting the severity of his offenses.

Prosecutor Jeremy Evans presented these findings to Grimsby Crown Court, emphasizing the disturbing nature of the evidence.

He explained that the police executed a search warrant at Lappin’s home, leading to the discovery of the illicit images and videos.

Lappin later explained to authorities that he had come across the bestiality image while searching for other child sexual abuse images, which underscores the disturbing context of his online activities.

Defense attorney Ian Haywood acknowledged that Lappin had made full and frank admissions regarding his actions back in 2013.

However, he pointed out that there had been a delay in bringing the case to court, which was not due to any fault of Lappin’s.

The court heard that Lappin’s behavior was of a highly serious nature, involving the grossly pornographic and exploitative material.

Judge Paul Watson QC did not hold back in condemning Lappin’s actions.

He described the images as “grossly pornographic” and emphasized that such crimes are far from victimless.

The judge underscored the profound harm caused by the possession and distribution of child abuse images, reinforcing the importance of strict sentencing.

As a result, Lappin was sentenced to a 32-week prison term, which was suspended, meaning he would not serve time unless he committed further offenses.

Additionally, he was ordered to undergo 20 days of rehabilitation and was required to notify authorities of his details as a sex offender for a period of seven years, ensuring ongoing monitoring and management of his conduct.
