SERIAL FLASHER PHILLIP KNOTT BLAMES VOICE IN HIS HEAD FOR OUTRAGEOUS PUBLIC EXPOSURES
An 'unapologetic exhibitionist' named Phillip Knott, who has a lengthy history of similar offenses, was caught exposing his private parts in public.
He claimed that 'Lucy', a voice in his head, compelled him to flash.
Prosecutors described him as enjoying exposing himself to vulnerable people, and noted that the offense was intensified by its frequency.
The 55-year-old was staying at Brighter Futures homeless accommodation in Hope Street when he exposed his penis, and he has a prior record, including being arrested for walking fully nude in Hanley in 2022 and waving his penis at police outside court in 2020.
Knott pleaded guilty to exposure, with the court hearing he may be using exposure to seek housing through the justice system, a claim he disputes.
During sentencing, Judge Graeme Smith acknowledged Knott's control over the voice 'Lucy', but highlighted his extensive offending history, including the latest offence while on a suspended sentence.
Despite this, a community order with rehabilitation days was imposed, and the judge noted Knott's preference for community support over prison due to his mental health issues.
