PAEDOPHILE JAILED FOR ABUSING VULNERABLE 13-YEAR-OLD GIRL
A paedophile who preyed on a sobbing child dressed in her pyjamas after she ran away from home has been imprisoned.Natnael Teclehaimanot, 32, encountered a 13-year-old girl after she fled her home following an argument with her mother.
He convinced her to visit his property so she could charge her mobile phone, which had run out of battery.
However, he then kept her in the house long enough to sexually abuse her.
The victim, a schoolgirl, has been left deeply traumatised, crying at night and contemplating suicide.
Prosecutor James Hudson stated that Teclehaimanot targeted a particularly vulnerable child, highlighting the significant age disparity and the fact he admitted to being under the influence of alcohol.
The girl expressed her feelings in a statement read to the court, saying, "I froze.
I hate myself for it.
I wish I had poked your eyes out.
You are a pervert.
I can't look at myself without hurting myself.
I can't look at men the same any more.
I really do not want to be alive any more.
But I am scared of how my family would feel if I ever did it.
I stay up at night crying." Rashad Mohammed, defending Teclehaimanot, acknowledged it was an unpleasant offence but argued Teclehaimanot was of good character and maintained his innocence.
Teclehaimanot, originally from Eritrea, has indefinite leave to remain in the UK.
He denied four charges of sexual activity with a child but was convicted following a trial in July.
He was sentenced to four years in prison at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court.
It is understood that after serving half of his sentence, Teclehaimanot will be deported and will also be registered as a sex offender for life and subjected to a sexual harm prevention order.
