OFFENDER WHO HELD A KNIFE TO HIS PARTNER'S THROAT AND FAILED TO COMPLY WITH COURT ORDERS
Darren Redden, a 44-year-old man who previously threatened his partner with a knife during an incident prompted by suspicions of infidelity, has failed to comply with the conditions set by the court.Last July, he was sentenced to two years in prison, suspended for two years, after admitting to charges including threats to kill, harassment, and breaching bail.
The court heard that Redden was on a pub crawl when he accused his girlfriend of cheating, later holding a knife to her throat and threatening her life.
He also engaged in harassing behavior through threatening messages and voicemails.
Court orders required him to undertake a Building Better Relationships programme, lasting up to 15 days, and adhere to a six-month electronically monitored curfew from 9 pm to 8 am.
However, hearings indicated that he had repeatedly breached these conditions, missing appointments and violating the curfew.
On June 15, he appeared in court for breaching the order but did not attend a later hearing on July 28, leading to a bench warrant.
He was detained on September 6 and brought back before the court.
Rachel Pennington of the probation service reported that Redden failed to attend the required programmes, missed several probation meetings without permission, and did not complete his rehabilitation days.
The probation team advised that his suspended sentence should be activated.
Redden, who lives on Regent Road, admitted to breaching his suspended sentence order.
The court noted his poor health and history of excessive drinking but acknowledged his efforts to abstain from alcohol since the end of 2022.
