MIDDLETON MAN JAILED FOR SEXUALLY EXPLICIT ONLINE CHATS WITH UNDERAGE GIRLS
Philip Stanney, a resident of Cypress Street in Middleton, has been sentenced to three months in prison after being convicted of engaging in online sexual activities with underage girls. The court proceedings revealed that Stanney was convicted on September 29, 2021, at Manchester Crown Court, on multiple charges including attempting to sexually communicate with a minor, inciting sexual acts, and possessing indecent images of children.
During the investigation, undercover officers posed as a 14-year-old girl on an online chat platform.
Stanney, using the username 'philmanchester,' immediately asked her about her age and engaged in conversation that grew more sexual over several days.
He asked her to send nude photos and requested an image with his name written on her arm to claim ownership, expressing a desire to be her 'owner.' After gathering sufficient evidence, police arrested him at his home in October 2019.
Authorities found multiple images of underage girls on his mobile device and laptop, including three that were classified as Category A, indicating the most serious material.
Stanney admitted during police interviews that he had communicated with numerous underage girls online.
Detective Inspector Suzanne Keenaghan described him as manipulative and predatory, emphasizing the lasting negative impact on victims.
The conviction resulted from a proactive law enforcement operation aimed at tackling child sexual exploitation, involving specialized undercover officers.
The police advise the public to come forward with any information related to sexual abuse and to contact local support services like Saint Mary’s Sexual Assault Referral Centre and Survivors Manchester for help.
