BOLTON MAN GETS COMMUNITY ORDER AFTER ASSAULTING EX-PARTNER ON NEW YEAR'S DAY
A man named Peter Wright, aged 32, from Redthorpe Close Bolton, attacked his former partner on New Year's Day after turning up drunk at her home. The assault involved kicking and pushing her, with at least one incident where the woman's glasses were smashed by a taxi door during a confrontation in the early hours.
The court was told that Wright, who has eight previous convictions for violence, had not accepted the end of their relationship which had been ended the previous month due to his heavy drinking and drug use.
On the night of the incident, Wright had returned to her house after earlier claiming his face had been slashed.
He appeared visibly drunk, bleeding from a facial wound, and demanded to collect his belongings.
When she tried to push him away, he grabbed her dress strap, snapped it, and kicked her in the thigh.
He also took her phone and ran away laughing with her damaged phone.
Wright pleaded guilty to causing actual bodily harm and criminal damage, and the court sentenced him to a two-year community order with mandatory rehabilitation, alcohol treatment, and participation in a relationships programme.
The victim did not support the prosecution.
