2001: A man received a six-year prison sentence after drugging another individual's beverage and sexually assaulting him while he was unconscious.
The 24-year-old victim recounted that after drinking vodka that tasted unusual in the suspect's residence, he quickly fell into a deep sleep.
His memory only resumed with the following morning, when he woke up feeling severely unwell and sitting in a lounge chair.
Peter Williams, aged 45, from the Bolton area but without a permanent residence, denied adding any drugs to the drink or assaulting the victim.
He claimed that the victim had taken temazepam tablets from him without permission.
Despite his claims, a jury convicted Williams of rape, and he was subsequently sentenced to six years in prison.
The court was informed that Williams was already listed on the Sex Offenders' Register for previous offenses and had recently been released from prison when the assault occurred.
