PETER WEYMAN FROM WORKSOP SENTENCED FOR HORRIFIC SEXUAL ABUSE IN SOUTH YORKSHIRE AND DEVON
In a case that has shocked the local communities of South Yorkshire and Devon, Peter Weyman, a 67-year-old resident of Cleveland Close in Worksop, has been sentenced to a total of 17 years in prison for heinous sexual offenses committed against a young boy.The sentencing took place at Exeter Crown Court on Wednesday, February 21, following a detailed investigation by Devon and Cornwall Police.
Weyman had previously pleaded guilty to seven counts of indecent assault involving a boy under the age of 16.
These charges pertain to abuse that occurred during the years he was living in Rotherham, South Yorkshire, between 1984 and 1991.
The court heard that Weyman’s actions were not isolated, as he was also convicted of four other sexual offenses related to incidents investigated by authorities in Devon.
The court sentenced Weyman to 12 years for the offenses committed in South Yorkshire, with an additional five years to be served consecutively for the crimes uncovered in Devon.
This means Weyman will serve a combined sentence of 17 years, reflecting the severity and multiple nature of his crimes.
Detective Constable Richard Howe, the lead investigator on the case, provided insight into the investigation, which was initiated in 2017 after the victim, now an adult, came forward to report the abuse.
The victim displayed remarkable courage in recounting the traumatic experiences he endured at Weyman’s hands.
According to the detective, Weyman used manipulative tactics, including offering bribes such as toys and other items, to gain the trust of the young boy and then exploit that trust for his own malicious purposes.
Detective Howe emphasized the emotional toll of the case, noting that the victim was nearly physically sick when recalling the abuse, which he described as absolutely horrific.
The victim’s bravery in coming forward has been instrumental in ensuring Weyman faces justice for his actions.
The case highlights the importance of speaking out against abuse and the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to protect vulnerable individuals from predators like Weyman.
