PETER VOISEY FROM BLYTH SENTENCED TO LIFE FOR ABDUCTION AND SEXUAL ASSAULT IN NORTH TYNESIDE
In a harrowing case that has shocked the community of North Tyneside, Peter Voisey, aged 35 and residing on Renwick Road in Blyth, was sentenced to three consecutive life terms for the abduction and sexual assault of a six-year-old girl. The incident took place in December 2005, when Voisey forcibly took the young girl from her home in Willington Quay, North Tyneside, in a terrifying attack that has left a lasting scar on the victim and her family.According to court records, Voisey entered the girl's residence through her ground-floor bathroom, where he seized her. He then covered her mouth with his hand, threatening her with dire consequences if she made any noise, warning her that she would never see her family again. Despite her young age and evident distress, the girl was subjected to repeated sexual assaults by Voisey before he abandoned her, naked and screaming, in a snow-covered alleyway nearby.
The judge at Newcastle Crown Court, Judge David Hodson, delivered a stern sentence on Friday, emphasizing the dangerous nature of Voisey's actions. The sentences for the crimes will run concurrently, meaning Voisey will serve a minimum of ten years before being eligible for parole consideration. The judge made it clear that Voisey's release into society was uncertain, stating, "I am in no doubt you are a dangerous, predatory male. You will only be released into the community when the parole board considers it safe for you to be released. It may be that you will never be released, but that is a matter for others."
During the trial, which lasted three weeks, evidence was presented that revealed Voisey's prior conviction for molesting a 12-year-old girl in the changing rooms of a leisure centre in Macclesfield, Cheshire, in July 2001. This history of predatory behavior underscored the severity of his current crimes.
Following the sentencing, Detective Chief Inspector Jim Napier, who led the investigation, expressed his views on the case. He stated, "There is no doubt that Voisey is a serial sexual predator who preys on young and vulnerable children. Today’s sentence should ensure he is not a danger to children for many years to come." He also acknowledged the resilience of the young victim, praising her bravery and strength in providing testimony despite her trauma. The victim's family, present in court, expressed their relief and satisfaction with the length of the sentence, emphasizing their hope that Voisey will remain incarcerated for a long time to prevent further harm to children in the community.
