NORTH EAST CHILD RAPIST JAILED FOR 27 YEARS FOR SHOCKING ATTACKS ON VULNERABLE GIRLS
A child rapist who subjected two vulnerable youngsters to a series of shocking attacks has been locked up for 27 years.Amit Gulati left both schoolgirls traumatised by carrying out vile attacks on them to satisfy his twisted desires.
The 42-year-old was convicted of a total of 19 offences encompassing at least 56 attacks against the victims by a jury at Newcastle Crown Court.
Now he has been given the lengthy jail term while his friend, Manideep Bolishetty, who also sexually abused the victims after Gulati introduced him to one of them and encouraged him to molest the other, was also locked up.
As the pair were sentenced, victim impact statements from both girls outlined the trauma they have suffered.
One of them said she was an "innocent child" when the abuse by Gulati began and said it left her "extremely scared".
She added: "The abuse has had a massive detrimental effect on my mental health.
I would often wish I was dead and I wrote letters about killing myself.
"I hate them for what they have done to me.
I often feel worthless.
"I can never get my childhood back and that's something I will have to live with for the rest of my life." She said the lead up to the trial left her feeling more anxious and she feared they would be released and cause further harm to children.
She added: "If I had one wish it would be to go back to when I was 12.
"This trauma will live with me for the rest of my life and I hate them for doing this to me.
They will never truly understand how much this has affected me." The second victim said: "I hate them for what they have done to me.
I feel so angry, annoyed, confused and sad about it all.
"I struggle to put into words how it's affected me.
I'm going through therapy to process what happened.
"I feel like every time I close my eyes I relive the pain and suffering caused by Amit.
I never want to think about or relive these disgusting, upsetting times again.
"I feel dead inside.
I wish I was not this way.
"Amit has made me feel completely worthless.
He has completely taken my confidence and I don't love myself as I probably should.
"They have taken what should have been a happy childhood away from me." Gulati, of Beaumont Street Blyth, who was found guilty of multiple offences of rape and other sexual offences, was jailed for 27 years plus an extended licence period of a further year.
He will have to serve two-thirds of the 27 years behind bars.
Bolishetty, 27, of Tamworth Road, Newcastle, was convicted of two counts of rape and one of sexual assault.
He was jailed for seven years.
Both men will have to sign the sex offenders register for life and will be subject to indefinite sexual harm prevention orders and restraining order.
Judge Gavin Doig, who paid tribute to the bravery of the victims in coming forward and reporting the abuse, said: "This was offending of the utmost seriousness.
The two victims were subjected to an extended period of serious sexual abuse by you, Gulati." The court heard Gulati is "hard-working", has no previous convictions and "others speak highly of him".
Bolishetty, who has an engineering degree, claimed he did not know about the age of consent.
