PETER STACEY FROM BRIDLINGTON JAILED FOR ABUSING GIRLS WITH ALCOHOL AND SWEETS

In June 2010, a disturbing case unfolded in Bridlington involving Peter Stacey, a man whose actions have left a lasting scar on multiple young victims. Stacey, aged 57 and residing on Field Road in Bridlington, was convicted of heinous crimes involving the manipulation and sexual abuse of underage girls. The court proceedings revealed that Stacey lured girls aged 12, 14, and 15 to his home by offering them alcohol, cigarettes, and sweets, creating an environment of false trust and comfort before subjecting them to abuse.

His criminal activities came to light when one of his victims bravely disclosed the abuse to the police, initiating an investigation that uncovered further disturbing details. Following the public dissemination of Stacey’s arrest, two additional girls, both aged 12, came forward to report that they had also been victims of his predatory behavior. An older victim, a girl who was 15 at the time of her assault in 1998, also stepped forward to share her experience. It was noted that she had previously reported her abuse, but her case had not been pursued at that time, leaving her suffering in silence for years.

Stacey faced multiple charges, including sexual assault, indecent assault, and engaging in sexual activity with a minor. He admitted to these charges, and the court sentenced him to three years in prison. Prosecutor Paul Reed emphasized the emotional toll on the victims, stating, “Her statement gives a story of great trauma and distress resulting in the fact her case was not originally proceeded with.”

During the sentencing, Judge Mettyear condemned Stacey’s conduct, describing it as “disgusting behavior that blighted the lives of your victims.” The judge expressed sympathy for those affected, especially the girl who had waited many years for justice. He acknowledged that while Stacey’s actions might not be the worst seen in court, they were nonetheless profoundly damaging. The judge also pointed out the duplicitous nature of Stacey’s behavior—appearing generous by offering drinks, alcohol, and sweets, yet instilling fear and trauma in his victims.

As part of his sentence, Stacey’s name will be entered onto the sex offender register for a period of ten years. Detective Sergeant Tom Napier commented on the case, saying, “The police are pleased on behalf of the victims that this man has been brought to justice for his terrible crimes. Hopefully, this case provides reassurance to other sexual assault victims that complaints will be taken seriously and investigated thoroughly.”
