GLYN MARTIN, BRIDLINGTON PAEDOPHILE, SENTENCED TO 18 YEARS FOR SYSTEMATIC CHILD ABUSE
In a case that has shocked the East Yorkshire community, Glyn Martin, a 53-year-old man from Bridlington, has been sentenced to 18 years in prison for a series of heinous crimes involving the exploitation and abuse of young girls.The court heard that Martin used his own daughters as bait to lure their schoolfriends into his home, where he subjected them to drugging and indecent assaults.
Prosecutors described the case as one of the most severe instances of systematic child abuse they had encountered.
Martin’s actions spanned over many years, with evidence revealing that he had been involved in a disturbing pattern of behavior.
The court was told that he had pleaded guilty to 57 counts, including indecent assault, child abduction, indecency with a child, administering noxious substances, and taking indecent photographs of minors.
Police investigations uncovered a staggering collection of approximately 6,000 indecent images depicting around 2,000 girls, highlighting the extent of Martin’s depravity.
Judge Michael Mettyear described Martin as a “determined and calculating paedophile,” emphasizing the premeditated nature of his crimes.
The judge stated, “Those 57 offences are merely examples of your persistence, abusive conduct...
All the evidence in the case indicates you are a determined paedophile.
Your offences were carefully prepared and calculated.
Your victims were young and numerous.” Further details revealed that Martin would give the young girls tablets, which he falsely claimed were vitamins, before they went to sleep.
While they were in a stupefied state, he would take photographs of them, often with placards bearing descriptions of how he intended to kill them.
These photographs were taken over a period spanning from the mid-1980s to 2003.
Martin exploited his role as a face-painter in Bridlington and his position as a school governor in Doncaster to facilitate his sinister activities.
He also placed advertisements in newspapers seeking to establish friendships between young girls and his two foster daughters.
The court heard evidence suggesting that Martin harbored intentions to commit even more unspeakably evil acts, including abduction, rape, torture, and murder.
As part of his sentence, he was ordered to register as a sex offender and was permanently banned from working with children.
The sentencing was met with emotional reactions from the public gallery, with some shouting “yes” in approval and relatives of the victims shouting abuse as Martin was led away.
Detective Inspector Tony Burke of Humberside Police expressed satisfaction with the outcome, stating, “We are very happy with the sentence.
The families are also happy with the sentence and that is all that counts.” Meanwhile, social services officials in Doncaster, Sheffield, and the East Riding have initiated an independent review of Martin’s activities in their respective areas.
They have promised to publish their findings in the coming weeks, aiming to ensure that all aspects of his abuse are thoroughly examined and that appropriate measures are taken to protect other children from similar harm.
