BRIDLINGTON MOTHER CRYSTAL SLANEY SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ACT WITH 15-YEAR-OLD IN FRONT OF HER CHILD
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Bridlington, a woman identified as Crystal Slaney, aged 25, has been sentenced to prison for engaging in sexual activities with a 15-year-old girl, an incident that took place in her own home and was witnessed by her 19-month-old son.According to court reports, the events unfolded last year when Slaney and the teenage girl consumed vodka together. Following this, Slaney engaged in online conversations with several men via MSN Messenger, a popular internet chat platform at the time. The situation escalated when the pair performed sexual acts on a webcam, at the request of the men Slaney had been chatting with, all while her young son was present in the same room.
Prosecutor Mark Bury described the sequence of events, noting that initially, there appeared to be no objection or protest from the teenage girl during the act. However, the following day, she confided in her mother, expressing distress and revealing what had transpired. This disclosure prompted police involvement, leading to an investigation.
The teenage girl, who is not related to Slaney, later provided a victim impact statement in which she expressed feelings of shame and self-reproach. She stated, “I feel dirty over the incident and angry with myself for letting it happen.” Her confidence and self-esteem suffered as a result of the ordeal, and her academic performance was also negatively affected.
In a pre-sentence report, Slaney was described as an “emotionally damaged woman for whom the barriers of appropriate sexual behaviour have become blurred.” Her defense lawyer, Anil Murray, acknowledged her guilty plea, stating that she had admitted guilt “at the first opportunity.” He argued that Slaney was not in a clear state of mind at the time, suggesting that her actions were spontaneous and that if the victim had been older, no offence would have been committed.
Murray also pointed out that the victim had been drinking alcohol during the incident. Despite these mitigating factors, the court sentenced Slaney to 18 months in prison for each of the two counts of sexual activity with a child, with the sentences to run concurrently. Additionally, she was ordered to register as a sex offender.
Judge Mr. Justice Penry-Davey emphasized that Slaney, being 25 years old, was fully aware of the gravity of her actions. He stated, “You are 25 and well old enough to appreciate the serious nature of the offences to which you have pleaded guilty. You knew that you were dealing with a child.” The judge acknowledged her guilty plea as a mitigating factor, which contributed to the reduced sentence, but underscored the seriousness of her conduct.
Slaney, whose address is listed as Victoria Road, Bridlington, was convicted at Hull Crown Court and received her sentence for her involvement in this deeply troubling case, which has left a lasting impact on the community and the victim involved.
