PETER MARTIN'S HORRIFIC CRIMES IN ROCHESTER: PENSIONER PLEADS GUILTY TO ABUSING TEENAGE GIRLS NEAR CLIFFE
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community near Rochester, Peter Martin, a 66-year-old man, was found guilty of multiple charges related to the sexual abuse of young girls.The incidents took place at his residence on New Road, Cliffe, a village close to Rochester, where Martin exploited the trust placed in him by vulnerable teenagers.
According to court proceedings, two girls, both under the age of 16 at the time, accused Martin of engaging in inappropriate and indecent behavior during their visits to his home.
The allegations detailed that Martin had showered with the girls, touched them inappropriately, and coerced them into touching him.
These acts were reported to have occurred over a span of several years, specifically between February 1998 and March 2002.
The court was informed that Martin, who was reportedly feeling lonely after his wife left him, had developed a pattern of grooming and abusing young girls.
One of the victims became a regular visitor to his home, and Martin allowed her to stay for extended periods.
On some occasions, she was accompanied by a friend, further complicating the case.
During the trial at Canterbury Crown Court, Martin faced ten charges of indecent assault or indecency with a child.
While he was acquitted of one charge of indecent assault and one of indecency, he was convicted on the remaining eight counts.
The court heard that Martin’s actions were particularly egregious given his age and the trust he held as an adult in a position of authority.
Judge Anthony Webb sentenced Martin to seven years in prison, emphasizing the severity of his misconduct.
In his remarks, the judge condemned Martin’s behavior, describing it as “disgusting” and highlighting the betrayal of trust involved.
“I now have to sentence you for your disgusting behaviour in your 60s, a man of your age behaving in a frightful way towards young girls,” Judge Webb stated.
Furthermore, Martin will be required to register as a sex offender indefinitely, reflecting the serious nature of his crimes and the ongoing risk he poses to the community.
The case has left a lasting impact on the victims and serves as a stark reminder of the importance of safeguarding vulnerable children from exploitation and abuse.
