JASON BETTINSON SENTENCED IN ROCHESTER TO SUNDERLAND FOR CHILD SEX OFFENSES
A man named Jason Bettinson, aged 30, has been handed a prison sentence of two years and two months following a disturbing series of events that unfolded across the country.The court heard that Bettinson traveled an extensive distance of nearly 300 miles from Rochester in Kent to Sunderland, with the apparent intent of meeting a 15-year-old girl he had been communicating with through online platforms.
According to court reports, Bettinson’s motives were deeply troubling.
He expressed a desire to 'have a baby' with the young girl and planned surprise visits during the last Christmas season, indicating a disturbing level of premeditation and obsession.
Accompanying him on this journey were a dog, two rabbits, and a female friend, suggesting he was prepared for an extended stay or possibly to maintain a cover story.
Upon his arrival in Sunderland, Bettinson’s actions became more explicit.
He approached the girl at a sandwich shop and, in a display of inappropriate behavior, gave her a love bite, which was considered an act of sexual misconduct.
Initially, Bettinson claimed he believed the girl was 17 years old, attempting to justify his actions.
However, he later admitted to engaging in sexual activity with a minor, a serious offense that carries significant legal consequences.
The court also heard that Bettinson had a prior conviction from 2019 for harboring a runaway girl, which further underscored his history of concerning behavior towards minors.
His past and current actions led Judge Penny Moreland to describe him as a 'dangerous offender.' The judge emphasized that Bettinson posed a 'significant risk' to young girls and the community at large.
In addition to his prison sentence, the court imposed several restrictions to prevent future harm.
These included a restraining order, a sexual harm prevention order, and a requirement for Bettinson to register as a sex offender for the next ten years.
