DOMESTIC ABUSER STABBED HIMSELF AND THEN CHECKED INTO DARENT VALLEY HOSPITAL IN DARTFORD TO TRY TO GET HIS EX ARRESTED
A domestic abuser who deliberately inflicted a stab wound to his chest in a scheme to have his ex-partner detained has been handed a three-year prison sentence.Wayne Slough arranged a confrontation at the woman’s home in Longfield, capturing the incident on his mobile phone.
He claimed the recording proved he was assaulted, but police used it to demonstrate he had lied in his account.
The 33-year-old, of Avery Way, Rochester, denied interfering with the course of justice but was found guilty after a court trial.
Previously, he was given a two-year suspended sentence in November 2021; this was overturned by the Court of Appeal on Wednesday, leading to an immediate custodial sentence.
On June 17, 2017, Slough visited the victim’s address to intentionally provoke an argument, which he recorded and kept in his pocket.
The recording concluded with Slough returning to his car and making a remark suggesting he was being approached by the woman.
It’s believed that during this time, he stabbed himself before driving away.
Moments later, he contacted Kent Police from Darent Valley Hospital, where he was treated for his wound.
He told authorities that his former partner had assaulted him that day.
Investigation of the recording showed that after the argument, Slough was seen returning to his car in a calm manner and commenting “here she comes” followed by profanity.
He stated he was struck with a downward punch to his shoulder and saw the knife in his chest, which he removed and threw into his vehicle’s footwell before departing.
The recording did not show any struggle, nor did it show the woman approaching him.
Witnesses confirmed the woman did not attack Slough nor was she carrying a knife.
DNA testing of the weapon did not find any traces from her, and the knife did not match utensils from her residence but was consistent with a set owned by Slough.
Kent Police’s Detective Constable Kathryn Lumsden-Earle emphasized that Slough had been deceitful and that domestic violence activities are unacceptable.
She expressed her satisfaction that he is now incarcerated and urged others experiencing domestic abuse to reach out for help and justice.
