WILTSHIRE PAEDOPHILE SENTENCED TO LIFE FOR RELENTLESS CHILD ABUSE
A predatory paedophile known to local children as “Uncle Peter” has been sentenced to six life terms, with additional concurrent sentences.Pete Daniels, age 70, from Wiltshire, used the persona of “Uncle Peter” to gain the trust of children and their parents, police reported.
Daniels, who was already serving a 12-year sentence for rape and other sex offences against girls, admitted to 78 additional charges involving 22 children.
The judge at Winchester Crown Court described his crimes as having an “unrelenting scale,” noting the victims ranged from ages two to 13.
Daniels created a false caring persona, made his home welcoming with treats, and engaged in grooming behaviors by taking children on outings, buying presents, providing babysitting, and hosting sleepovers—behaviors described as “classic grooming” in court.
Police discovered a collection of children’s toothbrushes and dressing gowns at his home, indicating further evidence of abuse.
Victim impact statements revealed profound trauma; one mother said, “I can’t begin to describe the trauma and damage he’s caused my children,” and a father expressed feelings of guilt and failure, stating, “I classed him as a friend.
I feel guilty, useless and I feel as if I’ve failed as a parent….
My wife and I don’t sleep at night.” Daniels was sentenced to six life sentences plus 72 jail sentences ranging from four months to 16 years, all to run concurrently.
