LUTON COUPLE SENTENCED FOR STARVING AND (MIS)TREATING DOG TO DEATH
A heartless woman, Paulina Goetzen, 32, has been involved in allowing her American Bulldog named Grizzly to die from starvation and neglect.
The dog was found to be severely emaciated with a weight of only 15kg, and a postmortem revealed that Grizzly had died from asphyxiation after choking on food.
When the pair took the emaciated dog to the vet, a staff member was alarmed by the condition of Grizzly and contacted the RSPCA.
The vet's report described the dog as showing an absence of fat tissue, muscle wastage, and serous atrophy of the bone marrow, all of which are consistent with prolonged starvation.
Vanished muscle mass and extreme emaciation indicated that Grizzly had suffered for at least two weeks prior to his death.
The couple, who admitted failing to provide adequate nutrition, claimed they did not have the funds to take the dog to the vet sooner.
Paulina, who has three children and suffers from multiple sclerosis, and her partner Petrica Danila, were sentenced to 16 weeks in custody, suspended for 12 months.
They were also banned from keeping all animals for 10 years and ordered to pay £1,696.31 each in fines, to be paid at a rate of £50 per month.
