A man who took his mother’s life following a disagreement has been sentenced to life imprisonment today.
Paul Stones, aged 38 and residing on Park Terrace in Sharples, Bolton, murdered Marian Stones, aged 58, by strangulation before calmly surrendering himself at a police station.
As her only child and a resident in the same household, Stones was found guilty of murder in a trial held at Manchester Crown Court.
Today’s sentencing requires him to serve a minimum of 17 years behind bars.
In June of last year, Stones approached a police officer at the station and admitted to having killed his mother, revealing the location of her body in their home.
Officers responded by visiting the residence, where they discovered Marian deceased in a bedroom.
