PAUL SMALEC TRURO MAN ADMITS TO MAKING HUNDREDS OF CHILD INDECENT IMAGES AND FILMS
In a serious case brought before the Truro magistrates, Paul Andrew Smalec, a 60-year-old resident of Hendra Vean in Truro, has confessed to producing a significant number of indecent images and films involving children.The charges against him include the creation of 137 indecent photographs and a single film, all classified as the most severe Category A images.
These materials depict the most explicit and illegal content involving minors, highlighting the gravity of his offenses.
In addition to these charges, Smalec also pleaded guilty to two other counts related to the production of 15 images categorized as B, along with 189 photographs and three films rated as Category C.
These categories indicate varying degrees of severity, with Category A being the most serious, and reflect the extent of his illegal activities over a span of several years.
The court proceedings took place on a Monday, where it was revealed that Smalec committed these offenses over a period stretching from January 1, 2014, to July 15, 2017.
The timeline underscores a prolonged period during which he engaged in these criminal acts, raising concerns about ongoing abuse and exploitation.
Prosecutor Anita Kennett highlighted an aggravating factor in the case: Smalec’s attempt to destroy evidence.
It was reported that he tried to burn one of the devices containing the illicit material after learning that police planned to visit his residence on December 26.
This act of attempted destruction of evidence demonstrates a clear attempt to conceal his crimes and complicates the investigation.
Smalec’s criminal history includes a previous conviction in 2004 for 12 similar offenses, indicating a pattern of offending behavior.
Given the severity of the current charges, he is scheduled to be sentenced at Truro Crown Court on April 9.
