TRURO MAN JAILED FOR CHRISTMAS DAY DOMESTIC VIOLENCE ATTACK
A woman experienced severe injuries, including bruising, swelling of her cheek resembling an orange, and discoloration after her partner, Daniel Byrom, assaulted her on Christmas morning.The incident occurred after he suspected she had taken his whisky.
The 51-year-old, residing on City Road in Truro, had been heavily drinking the night before and continued drinking upon arriving at her home.
He eventually passed out on her sofa, and she took a bottle of whisky from his hand.
When Byrom regained consciousness, he became aggressive, shouting at her and throwing objects, including hitting her in the face with her own mobile phone and delivering a backhanded slap.
Images of her injuries showed significant bruising and facial swelling.
The court was informed that Byrom had a history of abusive behavior and had violated several domestic violence protection orders.
The assault took place while he was on bail for another offence.
The woman reported suffering from PTSD, hallucinations, and blurred vision following the attack.
Byrom was arrested later that day and pleaded guilty to causing actual bodily harm.
He received a two-year prison sentence, a five-year restraining order, and credit for time served on remand which counted towards his sentence.
