PAUL MCKEE CARE WORKER FROM GREENOCK STRUGGLES WITH DISHONESTY AND COVER-UP IN CHILD ASSAULT CHARGE
In a disturbing case emerging from Greenock, a care worker named Paul McKee has been officially removed from his professional role following a thorough investigation by the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC). The inquiry uncovered a troubling pattern of dishonesty and misconduct that has raised serious concerns about his suitability to work within the care sector, especially given the vulnerable populations he was entrusted to serve.According to the findings, McKee was charged with assaulting a child around August 2022 while he was employed as an administrative assistant in the care sector in Greenock. Despite this serious legal issue, he failed to disclose the charge to his employer at the time. It was only after a report appeared in the Telegraph in April of the following year that McKee took any action to inform his employer about the incident.
In an attempt to cover his tracks, McKee created a document in the same month as the report, which he deliberately post-dated to August 2022. He then approached a deputy manager, identified only as ‘XX’, and asked her to sign the document. The SSSC report detailed that McKee told her, “I need you to tell the bosses that I told you about the charges and what happened when I was up at court,” despite not having previously disclosed the assault allegation to her. This request was part of a broader effort to manipulate the record and conceal the truth.
Further complicating the situation, McKee asked another colleague, ‘YY’, to delete the document he had authored. He also repeatedly contacted the deputy manager after her interview about his conduct, urging her to ‘keep lying’ to cover up his involvement. The report highlighted that McKee’s actions demonstrated a blatant disregard for honesty and integrity, raising significant concerns about his attitude and the potential risk to vulnerable individuals under his care.
While the name of his employer was redacted in the report, it was confirmed that McKee had previously lied on his CV to another employer, Homecare Scotland Care Services Limited. He falsely claimed to have served as a deputy manager for 12 months, a statement he reiterated during an investigation in August 2024. Additionally, he falsely stated that he left his previous job voluntarily, when in fact he was dismissed from that position.
The SSSC concluded that McKee exhibited a “clear pattern of seriously dishonest behaviour,” which they described as being “attitudinal in nature.” This pattern of misconduct raised serious concerns about public protection and the safety of those in his care. The disciplinary action against McKee became effective from June 11, and despite his removal from the register, an active email address associated with him remains listed on the Care Inspectorate’s website as a contact point for his current employer, Homecare Scotland Care Services Ltd. The company was contacted for comment regarding the situation.
The report emphasized that McKee’s actions demonstrated a lack of insight into the gravity of his behaviour and the potential risks posed to vulnerable individuals. It also highlighted concerns about his values and honesty in his professional conduct, underscoring the importance of safeguarding standards within the care sector and the need for strict oversight to prevent such misconduct from endangering those in need of care.
