PAUL DEVENPORT FROM WOLLATON ADMITS TO HAVING THOUSANDS OF CHILD AND ANIMAL SEX IMAGES
In a case that has shocked the local community of Wollaton, Paul Devenport, a 54-year-old resident of Firbeck Road, appeared before Nottingham Crown Court to face serious allegations related to the possession of highly disturbing and illegal material. The court was informed that Devenport had accumulated a vast collection of indecent images, including explicit photographs of children and a particularly grotesque image depicting a person engaging in sexual activity with an animal. The charges against Devenport include possessing an extreme pornographic image that was deemed 'grossly offensive,' which was identified as an image of a person performing intercourse with an animal. This particular image was dated June 28 of the previous year, and Devenport admitted to possessing it on that day. The court also heard that between January 8 and June 28 of the same year, he had made and stored a total of 4,635 indecent photographs of children. These images were found on multiple devices, including five video tapes, which were part of the evidence presented during the hearing.
Judge Michael Stokes QC, who is the resident judge in Nottingham, presided over the case and decided to adjourn proceedings to allow for a pre-sentence report to be prepared by the Probation Service. During the court appearance, Devenport was dressed in a grey suit and tie, and he wore glasses. He was granted bail under the condition that he would make and keep an appointment with a probation officer, a standard measure in cases involving serious charges.
The sentencing hearing has been scheduled for April 19, and Judge Stokes made it clear that the bail granted to Devenport should not be interpreted as any indication of the eventual sentence. He emphasized the gravity of the charges, stating, 'The fact I am giving you bail shouldn’t be taken by you as any indication of sentence.' The case remains a stark reminder of the ongoing efforts by authorities to combat the possession and distribution of illegal and harmful material, especially involving minors and animals, within the community of Wollaton.
