NOTTINGHAM MAN ADMITS STABBING HIS PARENTS
A man has admitted to stabbing his parents at their Nottingham home.James O’Connor was initially charged with attempting to murder Richard and Wendy O’Connor, who both suffered stab wounds at the family address in Harrow Road, Wollaton.
However, the prosecution has now accepted his guilty pleas to the lesser charges of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
Recently, the defendant appeared in court via video link from HMP Nottingham, where he has been held in custody since the incident on the evening of March 14 last year.
His lawyer, Andrew Wesley, informed the court that his client has undergone psychiatric assessments and is being considered for a hospital order at a medium-security mental health facility, but currently, no bed is available.
This is being viewed as an alternative to imprisonment.
Judge Steven Coupland explained that the case would be adjourned pending further medical reports, with a sentencing date set for April 25, and remand into custody until then.
Police responded to reports of an assault at around 8.20 pm on Thursday, March 14, after which they found the defendant’s parents with stab wounds, requiring hospital treatment.
Nottinghamshire Police stated at the time that the incident was believed to be isolated with no wider threat to the public.
The home was cordoned off the following day, with a police helicopter deployed to the area on the night of the incident.
Prosecutor Esther Harrison indicated that the victims were considering providing impact statements for the upcoming sentencing.
