FATHER OF FIVE GUILTY OF DOMESTIC STRANGULATION AND STALKING, RECEIVES COMMUNITY ORDER
A judge addressed a father of five who had strangled his wife from behind while their children were present in the house, stating he had displayed 'arrogance on an epic scale' by insisting he had done nothing wrong.Nottingham Crown Court heard how Gulshan Singh also frequently appeared drunk at the family home in Wollaton and on one occasion threw an empty vodka bottle at his wife.
The wife later changed her statement, asserting that the strangulation incident did not occur.
The court handed Singh an 18-month community order, which includes attending 25 rehabilitation sessions, performing 100 hours of unpaid work, and wearing an alcohol monitoring tag for 120 days.
The judge criticized Singh’s behavior, condemning his drinking and his attitude towards his family.
Singh previously pleaded guilty to charges of intentional strangulation and stalking, but his wife reported that she no longer remembers the incident of strangulation, claiming her previous testimony was mistaken.
The court noted Singh's pattern of abusive behavior linked to alcohol consumption and emphasized his arrogance and dismissiveness despite his guilty plea and prior admission of guilt, resulting in a sentence that emphasizes rehabilitation and monitoring.
