NOTTINGHAM RAPIST GARETH ODELL JAILED FOR 16 YEARS AFTER ABUSE
A Nottinghamshire man named Gareth Odell, of Charlbury Road in Wollaton, has been sentenced to 16 years in prison after being convicted of multiple serious sexual offenses. The Nottingham Crown Court heard that Odell raped a female victim between 2020 and 2021, despite his persistent denial of any wrongdoing.
During an earlier trial in March, the 37-year-old was found guilty on nine counts of rape and one count of sexual assault.
The judge, Julie Warburton, described Odell as a 'danger to women' and handed down a sentence of 16 years imprisonment with an additional eight years on license.
Detective Constable Lucy Clarke from Nottinghamshire Police stated, 'Thanks to the immense bravery showcased by the woman he abused, Gareth Odell will now spend a substantial period of his life behind bars.
It's impossible to sum up the pain, trauma and anguish his actions would have caused to this woman, and yet she found the strength to come forward and report it to the police, which is to her absolute credit.
That removal of consent meant what he did amounted to rape, which is an incredibly serious offence that can destroy a person’s life.
Odell further worsened the damage by denying any wrongdoing and forcing his victim to relive the ordeal.'
