BRIDLINGTON RAPIST PATRICK SALLABANK SENTENCED TO 18 YEARS FOR HORRIFIC SEXUAL OFFENCES
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Bridlington, Patrick Sallabank, a 20-year-old man, was convicted of heinous sexual crimes involving two teenage girls and subsequently sentenced to a lengthy prison term. The incidents took place at different locations within Bridlington, with the first assault occurring in Bradford and the second in Marshall Street, both within the town.According to court proceedings, Sallabank's first victim was a 16-year-old girl who was asleep at a house party when he assaulted her. The second victim, also 16, was attacked in her bedroom while her friend was knocking at the door, unaware of the assault happening nearby. The gravity of these crimes was compounded by Sallabank's own disturbing thoughts and actions, which he later admitted to police.
Following his arrest in July of the previous year after the first attack, Sallabank initially claimed that the sexual encounter was consensual. However, his stance changed dramatically after he committed a second assault on October 10, while he was still on bail for the initial offence. On that day, he made a 999 emergency call to the police, during which he confessed to both rapes and awaited arrest without resistance.
During questioning, Sallabank revealed troubling insights into his mental state. When asked why he had initially denied the first rape, prosecutor Jharna Jobes explained to Hull Crown Court that Sallabank expressed fears of escalating from rape to murder. He reportedly admitted to having violent fantasies, including thoughts of killing and feeding victims to pigs. He described a specific desire to take a person to a pig farm, remove their nails and hair, and watch the pigs devour them.
The court heard Sallabank's own words from police interviews, where he stated, "It’s happened again. I don’t want it to happen again. Everything I get I deserve. I’m aware it could happen again or something more serious could happen. It could go rape again or rape to murder. It could go anything with the thoughts I have. It’s not good."
Defense solicitor Chloe Fairley provided context about Sallabank’s background, describing a troubled childhood marked by physical abuse from his father and the influence of alcoholic parents. She emphasized that Sallabank had not received adequate support and had endured a difficult upbringing. She also noted that he expressed remorse, stating he hated what he had done and acknowledged that alcohol was not an excuse for his actions.
Judge Mark Bury addressed the court, highlighting the dangerous nature of Sallabank’s conduct. He pointed out the significant aggravating factors, including the fact that the first victim was a stranger who was asleep at the time of the assault, and the second victim was attacked while Sallabank was on bail. The judge described how Sallabank had forcibly shut the door, pushed his victim onto the bed, ignored her protests, and raped her in her own bed, a place where she should have felt safe.
In light of these factors, the judge sentenced Sallabank to an extended prison term of 18 years. He was told that he should serve a minimum of 12 years before being considered for parole, although he could potentially be released on license after serving eight years. Additionally, Sallabank will be registered as a sex offender for life and is permanently barred from working with children.
Judge Bury concluded by affirming the dangerousness of Sallabank, stating, "I have come to the clear conclusion, and I’m in no doubt whatsoever, that you are indeed a dangerous offender. That is to say you pose a significant risk of serious harm to members of the public by the commissioning of further specified sexual offences."
Patrick Sallabank, whose address is listed as North Street, Bridlington, committed the first offence in Bradford and the second in Marshall Street, Bridlington. For legal reasons, neither of the victims can be identified publicly, but the court’s verdict underscores the severity of his crimes and the ongoing threat he poses to the community.
