PATRICK BELL FROM STOCKWELL SENTENCED FOR HORRIFIC ANIMAL ABUSE IN LONDON
Patrick Bell, a resident of Morat Street in Stockwell, London SW9 0RP, was convicted of heinous animal cruelty offenses involving his Staffordshire bull terrier, Jinx. The disturbing incidents took place in July 2014, when Bell subjected the defenseless dog to a brutal attack that left her in a pitiful state of suffering.According to reports, Bell violently beat Jinx with a metal pole, causing her significant physical trauma. Witnesses observed him striking the dog multiple times about her head and body, an act that inflicted severe blunt force injuries. Following the assault, Bell attempted to suffocate Jinx by placing her head inside a plastic bag, an act of cruelty that nearly ended her life.
The RSPCA was alerted to the situation after a concerned witness reported the abuse. Inspector Esther Lincoln responded to the call and arrived at Bell’s residence. She found Jinx in a deplorable condition, trembling and visibly terrified, hiding under a makeshift kennel in the backyard. The dog was so frightened that she refused to move and had to be carefully carried out of the premises for examination.
Inspector Lincoln described the scene, stating, “This is hardly surprising as this sounded like an incredibly brutal and vicious attack. A witness saw the defendant hit Jinx multiple times about the head and body with a metal pole and then put her head in a carrier bag and attempt to strangle her. Horrible.”
Veterinary examination revealed bruising across Jinx’s neck, back, and flanks, along with tender sore points indicative of recent beating. The injuries confirmed the severity of the abuse inflicted upon her. Fortunately, Jinx was able to recover fully from her physical injuries. Her resilience and the care she received at the boarding kennels led to a heartwarming outcome: she was adopted by a loving new owner.
Jessica Lynn, the woman who adopted Jinx, shared her experience, saying, “Jinx was so withdrawn at first — she would not respond to any of the staff’s attempts to comfort her. But when I was introduced to her, she just came up and licked me. It was as if she chose me. We have been inseparable ever since, and it was obvious I had to adopt her.”
Jessica added, “She is a lot calmer now, but she still has her moments when there is a sudden movement, and she has a panic attack until I calm her down. It will haunt her forever, what happened to her, but we have a happy life between us.”
In court, Patrick Bell pleaded guilty to two animal welfare offenses. He was sentenced to a total of 14 weeks in jail, with seven weeks to be served concurrently for each offense. Additionally, he was ordered to pay an £80 victim surcharge and was disqualified from keeping animals for life, a measure intended to prevent any future cruelty.
Bell’s case highlights the ongoing efforts of animal welfare organizations and law enforcement to combat cruelty and protect vulnerable animals in London and beyond.
