FORTUNE ARAGUA FROM STOCKWELL JAILED FOR RAPE OF 13-YEAR-OLD SCHOOLGIRL
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Stockwell, a 25-year-old man named Fortune Aragua has been sentenced to prison for the heinous crime of raping a 13-year-old girl. The incident unfolded earlier this year, and the swift actions of the victim's mother played a crucial role in bringing the offender to justice.According to court records, the assault took place on February 10, 2017. The young girl, who had just finished her school day, was out with a friend in the Stockwell area when she was approached by Aragua. The man, who also goes by the alias Izevbigie Sylvester, initiated a conversation with her, despite her clearly stating her age. He then persuaded her to accompany him to his residence, where he quickly locked the front door upon their arrival.
Once inside, Aragua offered the girl a drink, which she refused. The situation escalated as he began to kiss her, and her protests were ignored. His landlady unexpectedly returned home during this time, prompting Aragua to lock the girl inside his bedroom to prevent her from leaving. Despite her resistance, he proceeded to sexually assault her, ultimately raping her before allowing her to leave the premises dressed.
After returning home, the girl confided in her family about the assault. Her mother, acting swiftly and decisively, rushed to Aragua’s residence in Stockwell. She managed to make a citizen’s arrest, detaining him until police arrived. This brave intervention was instrumental in ensuring that Aragua was taken into custody and charged with serious criminal offenses.
Following his arrest, Aragua was formally charged on February 12. During police interviews, he denied the allegations, claiming he had only seen the girl briefly outside his flat when she appeared unwell and that he had offered assistance. However, forensic evidence told a different story. DNA samples collected from the scene and from Aragua’s body and clothing, including inside his boxer shorts, confirmed his involvement in the sexual assault.
At Inner London Crown Court earlier this year, Aragua was convicted of multiple charges, including rape, attempted rape, and sexual assault of a minor. Today, at Wood Green Crown Court, he was sentenced to eight years in prison. Additionally, he will be subject to a lifelong registration on the sex offenders register, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities. His conviction and sentencing serve as a stark reminder of the importance of community vigilance and swift justice in protecting vulnerable individuals from predatory offenders.
