PARMJIT THAMI FROM REDDITCH SENTENCED AFTER KNIFE THREAT IN COVENTRY DOMESTIC DISPUTE

Parmjit Thami, aged 41 and a resident of Mount Pleasant, Redditch, faced a serious legal consequence after a violent incident that unfolded on Harefield Road in Coventry. The events, which took place during a heated domestic dispute, culminated in Thami threatening his partner with a large kitchen knife while under the influence of heavy alcohol consumption.

According to court reports, Thami, who had previously served as a soldier and sustained injuries during active duty, became increasingly aggressive during the altercation. He openly threatened to harm his partner, uttering chilling statements such as "I’ll f***ing slash her" and "She’s going to be murdered in 20 seconds," while counting down from twenty. These threats were made in a highly intoxicated state, and witnesses observed Thami wielding the knife in a menacing manner, escalating the situation from their home into the street outside.

During the incident, Thami also directed threatening language towards a police officer who responded to the scene, warning, "She had better watch out, I’ll f*** her up." The court heard that the confrontation lasted several minutes, with a group of students nearby recording the distressing events, which added to the evidence against him.

Initially, Thami denied charges of assault and making threats, but on the day of his trial last month, he changed his pleas to guilty. Prosecutor Paul Mytton highlighted that the incident was particularly dangerous, given Thami’s possession of a large kitchen knife and his aggressive threats. The court was informed of Thami’s prior convictions, which include offenses related to drug production and driving under the influence, indicating a pattern of problematic behavior.

Judge emphasized that Thami’s excessive drinking had become a significant issue in his life. While Thami claimed he did not intend to carry out the threats, the act of brandishing a knife in such a threatening manner posed a real risk of injury or death. The court noted that if Thami had truly wanted to harm his partner, he could have done so during the incident.

As a result, Thami was sentenced to two years and three months in prison. The judge underscored the seriousness of the case, especially considering the potential for harm and the dangers associated with alcohol-fueled violence. This case serves as a stark reminder of the risks posed by domestic disputes that escalate into violence, particularly when weapons are involved and alcohol impairs judgment.
