OZGUR SUYOLCU JAILED FOR LIFE FOR VIOLENT ABUSE AND ARSON AGAINST GIRLFRIEND IN TUNBRIDGE WELLS
A violent individual named Ozgur Suyolcu has been convicted of subjecting his partner to a brutal campaign of abuse, which included the use of weapons such as a clothes steamer, a metal bicycle lock, and a hammer.The victim was left with severe physical injuries, including burns, fractures, punctured lungs, and bite marks.
She endured this torment for up to two weeks in her flat in Tunbridge Wells.
The victim suffered burns to her abdomen, back, and limbs, and was found in a weakened state by police, gasping for breath and unable to move.
The injuries were described as extreme and potentially fatal by a pathologist.
During the attack, she was burnt with a steaming device, and her injuries included burns measuring up to 15cm by 9cm with a distinctive pattern.
The perpetrator had a history of violence and domestic abuse, with 13 previous convictions for 28 offences.
Court proceedings revealed that he maintained contact with his victim via phone calls and messages from behind bars, attempting to manipulate her and even convince her to have his name tattooed on her face.
Suyolcu pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm with intent between March 20 and April 14 of the previous year, and controlling or coercive behavior from June 2023 to July 2024.
A more serious charge of attempted murder was left on file.
The judge described the case as one of the worst examples of domestic violence that the court had ever seen, and sentenced Suyolcu to life imprisonment, with a minimum of 13 years before eligibility for parole, less time served on remand.
The court acknowledged the profound physical and psychological impact on the victim and her family, and noted his lack of remorse and limited insight into his actions.
