2012: HEREFORD TAXI DRIVER JAILED FOR SEX ASSAULT
A HEREFORD taxi driver has been jailed for 13 years for sexually assaulting a woman passenger.A jury at Hereford Crown Court this afternoon found Nikolay Hristov guilty of assault by penetration.
Hristov, aged 35, of Ross Road, Redhill, Hereford, was sentenced to 13 years and branded a dangerous offender.
Detective inspector Martyn Barnes, who led the investigation, said: “Hristov has been found guilty of an appalling offence, he is a calculated liar who attempted to deceive investigators and the courts.
He is a highly dangerous individual who preyed on a particularly vulnerable woman, the circumstances of which were some of the most horrendous that my officers have had to investigate.
I would like to pay tribute to the enormous courage displayed by the victim, this crime has had a devastating impact on her life and loved ones.
She continues to struggle to come to terms with what occurred, made worse by Hristov forcing her to re-live her ordeal at court by maintaining his innocence throughout.
She has remained dignified and resolute throughout, motivated by the fact she would be preventing other women from being his victims.
As a driver Hristov was in a position of trust, a position he abused in the most horrendous and predatory manner.
I would like to thank the victim for her enormous courage and the trust she has placed in the justice system.
