BERKSHIRE MAN JAILED FOR MANSLAUGHTER OF WIFE
A man has been jailed for six years for killing his wife at their home in Berkshire.Nigel Talman, 60, of Carnarvon Close, Newbury, pleaded guilty at Reading Crown Court to the manslaughter of wife Sandra, 62, on the grounds of diminished responsibility.
Her body was found at their flat in a retirement complex on 17 August after Talman had called the police.
Thames Valley Police called it "a sad and tragic case".
The court heard the former Thames Water worker had been suffering a severe depressive episode with psychotic symptoms.
Results of a post-mortem examination showed Mrs Talman died of compression to the neck.
Talman was arrested at the scene and charged the next day with murder.
He pleaded guilty to manslaughter on 30 January.
Thames Valley Police said it was happy with the outcome after consultation with medical professionals, officers and the Crown Prosecution Service.
