NEIL GLOVER'S HORRIFIC CRIME IN CHRISTCHURCH: GUN HELD TO WOMAN'S HEAD DURING RAPE
In a chilling case that has shocked the Christchurch community, Neil Glover was convicted of a series of heinous crimes that culminated in a terrifying assault involving a firearm.The incident took place over two days in February of the previous year, during which Glover, a man with no fixed address, targeted a woman in her 50s under the guise of a massage appointment.
On the evening of Monday, February 10, Glover initially contacted the victim to arrange a massage session at her residence in Christchurch.
During this first encounter, he inappropriately touched her without her consent.
The woman managed to stop him, prompting Glover to immediately apologize.
Despite this unsettling start, Glover expressed remorse and requested a second appointment, which the victim eventually agreed to.
He returned to her home two days later, on Wednesday, February 12.
It was during this second visit that the situation escalated into a horrifying ordeal.
While the victim had her back turned, Glover produced what she believed to be a firearm and pressed it against her head.
Under threat of the weapon, he forced her to perform oral sex and then proceeded to rape her.
The victim, understandably traumatized, reported the assault to the police the following day.
Her detailed account led to Glover's swift arrest at the Bournemouth address where he was staying at the time.
During the subsequent police search of Glover’s residence, officers discovered five imitation firearms, including a replica pistol that matched the description provided by the victim.
Glover was taken into custody and questioned about the crimes.
In his police interview, he claimed that all sexual activities had been consensual, but he refused to comment on the use of the firearm during the assault.
Glover’s trial took place at Bournemouth Crown Court, where he was found guilty of multiple serious charges, including two counts of rape, assault by penetration, and possession of an imitation firearm with intent to commit rape.
The court heard that Glover’s actions were particularly dangerous and disturbing, prompting the judge to impose a lengthy and stringent sentence.
Judge Jonathan Fuller QC sentenced Glover to 18 years in prison, with an additional seven years of extended licence, bringing the total potential incarceration to 25 years.
Furthermore, Glover was subjected to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order and was placed on the sex offenders’ register indefinitely, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions.
Describing the case, a police detective characterized Glover’s actions as “a truly horrifying sexual attack,” emphasizing the severity of the crimes committed in Christchurch.
