NATHAN CHESLIN OF SUTTON COLDFIELD AVOIDES JAIL DESPITE GESTURES TOWARD YOUNG GIRLS IN BIRMINGHAM
In July 2015, Nathan Cheslin, now residing in Quinton, was involved in a disturbing case from July 2011 involving his inappropriate conduct towards minors.Cheslin, who previously lived on Lindridge Drive in Sutton Coldfield, engaged with a 12-year-old girl via MSN messenger, using the alias 'Emily' to lure her into discussions about becoming a model.
During their conversation, he later switched to the name 'Nathan' and requested that she ensure her webcam was active.
He then asked her to wear a 'party dress' and high heels for photographs.
Birmingham Crown Court heard that Cheslin sent the girl images of another young girl in her underwear as instructions on how she should pose.
Cheslin, aged 21 at the time, had pleaded guilty to several charges including inciting a child to participate in child pornography, making seven indecent photographs, and distributing six such images.
Judge William Davis QC addressed Cheslin, stating, 'You’re a danger to girls, but I won’t send you to prison.' Instead, he sentenced Cheslin to a three-year community order, emphasizing that this approach was the best way to address his issues and protect the public.
The prosecution, led by Paul Dhami, explained that police were alerted after the 12-year-old girl expressed discomfort about Cheslin’s request for underwear photos.
Cheslin then pleaded with her not to report him and later contacted her again via the 'Emily' account, claiming that 'Nathan' had been sacked.
An investigation revealed both online usernames were registered to Cheslin's home address.
Police raided his residence and confiscated items including a laptop containing evidence of webchats, indecent images, and videos of minors — one depicting a 13-year-old girl performing an indecent act over a webcam.
Further examination showed some of the photos and videos had been uploaded to file-sharing websites.
Defense lawyer Phillip Brunt noted that Cheslin had a troubled educational background and had recently been diagnosed with Asperger’s syndrome.
