HALIFAX MAN SENTENCED TO 16 YEARS FOR CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE
In Calderdale, 20 men have been sentenced to a total of more than two centuries in prison after an investigation into historical child sexual abuse yielded convictions on multiple charges involving young girls.The offenders received a combined sentence of 219 years following their guilty verdicts for raping and abusing minors.
This outcome resulted from several individual case investigations and trials, which identified that four girls, aged 12 to 16, were victims of sexual exploitation and abuse in the Calderdale district.
Court restrictions, meant to safeguard the integrity of the proceedings, have now been lifted.
The investigation was initiated in 2016, focusing on allegations from 2006 to 2009, concerning two girls aged between 13 and 16.
A trial at Bradford Crown Court commenced on October 21, during which Nadeem Adalat, aged 39 from Halifax, was convicted of rape and initially received a 14-year sentence.
This was increased to 16 years following an appeal.
The investigation also revealed links to other offenders and more cases involving child sexual abuse and exploitation within the area.
Detective Chief Inspector Claire Smith of Calderdale Police said: “I want to commend the bravery of the victims and survivors involved in these cases; their willingness to come forward and their perseverance through the criminal justice process and the reporting restrictions.
Due to legal reasons, details could not be released earlier, but I am pleased with the sentences handed down to these offenders, reflecting the gravity of the crimes committed against vulnerable young girls and heard by juries over the past few years.
