NABIL BOWERS FROM PETERHEAD ADMITS TO RAPE OF 12-YEAR-OLD GIRL IN JULY 2014

In July 2014, Nabil Romero Bowers, a 19-year-old apprentice engineer from Peterhead, pleaded guilty to raping a 12-year-old girl at a house party. The incident occurred between March 1 and June 30, 2013, at a residence in Peterhead, where Bowers admitted to placing the schoolgirl on a bed and having sex with her.

The High Court in Glasgow was told that rumours circulated afterward suggesting the girl had been raped by Bowers. A friend contacted her via Facebook to verify these claims, to which she responded: "He was drunk and I didn’t know what was happening and it happened for two seconds cos I didn’t want to do it."

Prosecutor Rosemary Guinnane, advocate depute, stated: “Prior to this incident she had not been involved in a sexual relationship. Afterward she told a friend that something had happened that she hadn’t wanted. The girl later said she was crying when she made this disclosure. The girl did not initially tell her mother, but finally revealed what had occurred in August 2013.”

When questioned by police, Bowers of Viking Way in Peterhead admitted having sex with the girl. He claimed he stopped when she said it was painful and believed she was 14, noting that he had lived in Spain, where the age of consent is 14. However, he told officers that he was aware the age of consent in the UK is 16.

Ms. Guinnane added: “The girl told police that the accused had sex with her and that she did not consent to what had taken place, although there is no suggestion that she explicitly voiced lack of consent before the sex occurred.”

The court also heard that the girl has struggled with her school life as a consequence of the incident. Judge Lord Turnbull deferred sentencing until next month and ordered Bowers to be placed on the sex offenders’ register.
