MYRIAM BAMKIN SENTENCED FOR CHILD ABUSE IN STAPLEFORD: OPERATION EQUINOX REVEALS DARK PAST
In a case that has shocked the local community of Stapleford, Myriam Bamkin, a 59-year-old former social worker, has been sentenced to 30 months in prison for the indecent assault of a 15-year-old boy during the 1980s.Bamkin, who previously resided on Moorbridge Lane in Stapleford, appeared before Nottingham Crown Court on Friday, June 1, where she pleaded guilty to charges of having sexual relations with a minor under the age of 16.
Her conviction stems from a disturbing incident that took place in the mid-1980s, when the young victim, who had already endured a tumultuous and violent childhood, was transferred to Amberdale Observation and Assessment Centre, a facility dedicated to the care and assessment of young people in Stapleford.
The court heard that shortly after her involvement with the boy, Bamkin began to show a particular interest in him, often taking him to the centre’s gymnasium.
It was during these visits that the inappropriate relationship developed, culminating in her engaging in sexual activity with the minor.
The investigation into Bamkin’s actions was part of a broader operation known as Operation Equinox.
This initiative is focused on uncovering and addressing historical abuse cases involving children in care homes and other institutional settings across Nottingham and Nottinghamshire.
