PETERHEAD CHEF JAILED FOR SEX OFFENCES INVOLVING TEENAGE GIRLS
Restaurant chef Muhammad Abdur Rakib, aged 37, along with manager Muhammad Abdul Kaium, were convicted after a trial at Aberdeen Sheriff Court of sexually assaulting two teenage girls. The victims, aged 16 and 17, reported that the men had plied them with drinks before escorting them to a city centre hotel.
Witnesses described how Rakib sexually assaulted the girls at the hotel after inviting them to Zara’s Indian Cuisine and allowing them alcohol.
Witness One, who was 17, testified that after a delivery, Kaium attempted to pull her closer and made her feel frozen.
In Aberdeen, Rakib was accused of attacking the girls again at the Mercure Hotel, where Witness One detailed how Rakib attempted to remove her top, touched her thighs, and tried to coerce her into doing things to him.
She described him pinning her with his knees and trying to manipulate her into touching his groin, leading her to be scared that it would escalate further.
CCTV footage showed both victims escaping around 4:50 am.
Both accused, who relied on interpreters, maintained their innocence and did not give evidence in court.
Rakib’s legal representatives mentioned his immigration status, assessing his risk as low but highlighting that his chances for permanent residence have been diminished due to his conviction.
Sheriff Ian Wallace sentenced Rakib to 14 months in prison and placed him on the sex offenders register for 10 years, along with a 10-year non-harassment order.
Kaium received a community payback order with 150 hours of unpaid work and supervision for one year.
The sentences reflect the serious nature of the offenses, with the sheriff emphasizing the lasting impact on the victims.
