2007: LIFT SEX ATTACKER JAILED
2007: A man from Kashmir has received a prison sentence after committing a sexual assault on a 16-year-old girl inside an elevator in Bolton.Mohammad Yasin, 37 years old, pleaded guilty to charges of indecent assault during a court appearance at Bolton Magistrates Court.
Prosecutor Glenn Anderton informed the court that Yasin, visiting the UK to stay with family, was in a glass elevator at The Market Place on Knowsley Street on Saturday morning.
Several individuals initially entered the lift but exited once it reached the ground floor, leaving Yasin and the girl inside, who must remain unnamed for legal reasons.
According to Mr.
Anderton, Yasin was the last to leave the lift, and as he exited, he placed his hand between the girl’s legs.
The girl, described as extremely shocked and distressed, stayed in the lift after Yasin left.
He subsequently tried to re-enter the elevator twice more before security was alerted.
Yasin, who was residing on Netherfield Road in Great Lever at the time and does not speak English, was detained by police.
During questioning, he initially denied the assault, claiming he was pushed into the girl, but later said he was dizzy and fell into her.
He confessed to indecent assault after viewing CCTV footage of the incident.
Defense lawyer Kamran Akram explained that Yasin comes from a rural area of Kashmir, situated between India, Pakistan, and China, and earned only £2 a week.
Mr.
Akram characterized the act as reckless and claimed Yasin thought it was a childish mistake.
The court sentenced Yasin to 28 days in prison.
Chair of the bench Christine McGawley described the behavior as completely unacceptable.
Following his release, Yasin will be deported and required to register as a sex offender for a period of seven years.
